National Hat Day 2016

National Hat Day 2016

In honour of National Hat Day - 2016 (Today), we thought we’d show you a few examples, from our collection, of some of the first recorded hats worn by our Arctic ancestors in 1784.  Although the hats featured herewithin were worn at different times of the year, we sure are thankful to the milliners of the world for the evolution of hat-making; on a cold winter’s day, like today, in Montreal!

These prints were drawn by John Webber to accompany the text of the exploratory voyage taken and recorded by Captain James Cook; whilst traveling around the Pacific Ocean during the years 1776-1780 and recorded in the following publication.  They are original antique prints taken from the book published in 1784.
